About me
I am an artist and curator based between Ireland and Portugal. I studied painting at the National College of Art and Design, graduating in 2004. After many years working as a curator in Dublin, I decided to take time to develop my own artistic practice, completing an MA in drawing at the university of Lisbon in 2021. Since 2018, I have been focussing on the medium of drawing as a vehicle to make sequential art works.
This has so far taken the form of comic books telling the stories from my childhood, and focussing on forgotten histories of women in my family, both real and imagined. Other narrative based drawn works including daily drawings and self portraiture. I use mainly analogue drawing techniques and unpredictable materials such as watered down paint and ink to create work that is equally at home on the walls of a gallery as between the pages of a comic book. Time is often an important factor in my work, with projects being built up daily over along periods of time. I am currently working on a calendar of plant and weed paintings which will be realised over the course of one year. I am also working on a new comic book called 'Love' about the life of my great great great Grandmother, Love Vallis.
